Accountant/Contract Administrator
Location: Gatesville, TX
Type: Full-Time

Overview:
As the Accountant/Contract Administrator at JHL Construction, you’ll be the backbone of our day-to-day operations. This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting - Financial Statements

  • Manage office communications, scheduling, and file organization

  • Handle all billing, invoicing, and tracking job expenses

  • Coordinate meetings, travel, and internal calendars

  • Support HR and accounting teams with administrative tasks

  • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors and phone inquiries

  • ​Work closely with CPA in maintaining financials

  • Work with bonding agent and insurance broker

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of accounting experience

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and document management systems

  • Strong communication and time management skills

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines with accuracy

Accountant

Project Manager
Location: Central Texas Region
Type: Full-Time

Overview:
JHL Construction is seeking a results-driven Project Manager with experience leading heavy civil or industrial construction projects. This role requires a strong communicator who can manage teams, budgets, and schedules while upholding our commitment to safety and precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, and scheduling from start to finish

  • Coordinate with superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors

  • Ensure all work meets quality standards, safety protocols, and contract requirements

  • Resolve issues quickly

  • Maintain client relationships and report project progress

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in construction project management (heavy civil preferred)

  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage large-scale projects

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Construction Managers

Heavy Civil Excavation-Concrete-Asphalt Estimator / Project Manager
Location: Central Texas (Hybrid options available)
Type: Full-Time

Overview:

HL Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Concrete-Asphalt Estimator / Project Manager to join our team.

We are looking for a motivated construction professional with experience in estimating, project management, or a combination of both. Candidates do not need to have held both positions to be considered. A strong background as either an Estimator or Project Manager, along with an understanding of heavy civil construction, can be an excellent fit for this position.

​

Experience with concrete and asphalt construction is a plus.

This role will support projects from the estimating and preconstruction stages through project execution and completion. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable reading plans and specifications, and understands how accurate estimating, project planning, cost control, scheduling, and communication contribute to successful and profitable projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Depending on the selected candidate’s experience and strengths, responsibilities may include a combination of estimating and project management duties.

  • Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Review plans, specifications, bid documents, contracts, and project requirements

  • Perform accurate plan/blueprint takeoffs and field takeoffs

  • Develop detailed quantity and cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects

  • Estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, hauling, and other project costs

  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors

  • Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals

  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed

  • Identify scope requirements, exclusions, potential conflicts, project risks, and opportunities

  • Maintain accurate estimating documentation and supporting information

  • Assist with project handoff from estimating to operations after award

  • Project Management

  • Manage assigned construction projects from award through completion

  • Review project scope, contracts, plans, specifications, schedules, and budgets

  • Coordinate with field supervisors, crews, subcontractors, vendors, owners, and other project stakeholders

  • Track project costs against budgets and estimates

  • Monitor labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and production costs

  • Assist with project scheduling and coordination of field operations

  • Manage change orders, RFIs, submittals, documentation, and other project requirements as applicable

  • Identify potential delays, cost overruns, scope changes, and project risks

  • Work with field leadership to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget

  • Maintain clear communication between the office, field teams, customers, vendors, and subcontractors

  • Assist with project closeout and final documentation

  • Support the overall profitability and successful execution of each assigned project

​

Equivalent combinations of education, construction experience, estimating experience, and project management experience will be considered.

​

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in construction estimating, project management, or a related heavy civil construction role

  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid and/or HeavyJob is a plus

  • Experience in the heavy civil construction industry

  • Concrete and/or asphalt construction experience is preferred

  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction plans, drawings, specifications, and bid documents

  • Experience performing or reviewing quantity takeoffs and construction estimates

  • Understanding of construction costs, labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project rates

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple bids, projects, deadlines, and priorities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable communicating with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and internal team members

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and work within estimating, project management, and Microsoft Office software

  • Ability to identify potential project risks, discrepancies, scope gaps, and cost concerns

  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the overall project scope and objectives

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed

Compensation

$90,000–$115,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Paid Time Off

JHL Construction offers the following paid time off benefits:

~56 hours of sick leave

~One week off during the Christmas holiday period

  • Employees with less than one year of service receive a prorated amount based on length of service

  • Employees with at least one year of service receive one week of regular pay

~One week of paid vacation after one year of service

Bonus Opportunities

Eligible employees may receive company bonuses during:

  • August

  • Christmas

Finish Motor Grader Operator
Location: Central Texas (Hybrid options available)
Type: Full-Time

Overview:
JHL Construction is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Finish Motor Grader Operator to join our heavy civil construction team. This role is ideal for an experienced equipment operator who can deliver precise final grades on roadways, pads, and drainage systems with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate motor grader to perform fine grading on construction sites to exact specifications

  • Shape and finish slopes, roadways, and pads using blade adjustments and depth perception

  • Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and blueprints

  • Work closely with foremen, surveyors, and ground crews to maintain proper grade and alignment

  • Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and safety checks

  • Adhere to all company and job site safety protocols at all times

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience operating a motor grader for fine grading

  • Strong understanding of grade control systems (Topcon, Trimble, or similar) preferred

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and grade stakes

  • CDL a plus, but not required

  • Reliable transportation and willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
